JRILL Bit

THE BODYBUILDER AND I (2007)
A little-known doc from a first-time Canadian filmmaker who is wrestling with his paternal relationship. His Dad, aged 60, has become a competitive bodybuilder, much to his humiliation. Solid film. Great soundtrack by Jim Guthrie. Available through the NFB. Look for it online.

The length of a film should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder.
-- Alfred Hitchcock

Life is like an overlong drama through which we sit being nagged by the vague memories of having read the reviews.
-- John Updike

About

JRILL, first conceived in 2003, is an information source dedicated to documentary film. JRILL hosts reviews, forums, recommendations, awards, links, films to view and lots more related to the sprawling world of documentary.

Developed by Gallay Hartt Documents, a Toronto-based production house specializing in documentary films, it hopes to fill the rather substantial void online where documentaries are difficult to discover, watch and share with others. Over time we hope to cultivate a strong community to support documentarians and pioneer new ways to disseminate and even create documentary films.

For now, we’ll start with reviews. Our recent beta-launch is new for the summer of 2009 and we encourage any would-be reviewers out there to get in touch. We are looking for documentary fans who have a passion for the genre, to share their analysis and insight on films that impacted them.

We hope you enjoy JRILL (read: “drill”) and welcome you to contribute however you feel comfortable. Long live the doc.
